European Historic Gardens designated as World Heritage by UNESCO.
UNESCO’s World Heritage List includes a total of 35 places in Europe that either are Historic Gardens or contain a historic garden within the boundaries of the designation. This is an indication of the importance and interest of this kind of property and their large number in Europe.
Germany and Italy (with 6 places each), head the list of countries with designated historic gardens, followed by Spain (5), Austria (4), France and the United Kingdom (with 3 each), Czech Republic (2), and Belgium, Poland, Portugal, Russia, Sweden and Ukraine (with 1 each).
